Sociological Studies originated in January 1986 is a first-class academic journal published by the Institute of Sociology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Since having made efforts such as promoting the normalization of sociological studies in China, channeling an exchange of views of sociologists between China and other countries and training the new generation of the Chinese sociologists, the Journal has been the one of which the sociologists at home and abroad think highly and in which the scholars in other fields and the broad masses of the readers are very interested. The more and more authors in the Chinese sociological world would make their first choice of this Journal to publish their professional outcomes and communicate with their colleagues due to it shows a more clear academic orientation.

Sociological Studies aims its endeavors at a special contribution to the development of sociology in a global level as well as in China by way of enlarging the academic areas, strengthening interactions among the scholars, and abstracting concepts, theory and establishing system of discipline based on the experiential research results.

It is more than 20 years since it was reconstructed in 1978, sociology in China is today at its developmental stage characteristic of reflection and innovation. Sociological Studies has changed the editorial guideline and columns of the Journal in recent years. At present there are five main columns in Sociological Studies: "Monographic Studies"; "Theory, Research Method or Methodology"; "Treatises"; "Sociological Conversation by Writing, Academic Debates", and "Information". The aim of the "Monographic Studies" is to explore the hot issues on a high scientific level and to analyze a special issue from the multi-viewpoints and different dimensions. The column "Theory, Research Method or Methodology" calls for reflecting on this discipline, developing the capabilities of arguing with the sociologists in other parts of the world in order to accumulate and update the Chinese sociologists' knowledge. "Treatises" provides the normative, thoughtful articles with space for any free discussions. The columns "Academic Debate", "Sociological Conversation by Writing" give expression to our hope to activate the academic atmosphere in which the consciousness of learning, dialogues and critiques etc., should be enhanced. Paying its attention to the recent trends, "Information" gives first priority to publishing the most important messages. The criteria of Sociological Studies set for the article selection focus on their higher academic standards.
